About Us
The Mission Response Team was formed in 1999 in response to Disaster Relief efforts taking place in Del Rio, Texas. A group of 21 volunteers made the trip to Texas and worked to rebuild the community and share the love of Christ with those affected by the devastation. The Team has made three trips to David, Kentucky. We worked closely with St. Vincent's Mission to improve the living conditions in that area. In the summers of 2004, 2005 and 2007, the Team traveled to Camden, New York,
to work with Cluster #13 Ministries. In January of 2005, nine members volunteered for a disaster relief trip to Port Charlotte, Florida, through Lutheran Disaster Services. The Team also traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi in November of 2005, April, June and November of 2006, April and October of 2007, and April and October of 2008, April and October of 2009 and April of 2009 to assist with the rebuilding efforts. Another trip to Biloxi is planned for October of 2010.
We volunteer at the Allentown Rescue Mission on an "as needed" basis. The last three years we have held donation drives for personal care items, hats, gloves, scarves and children's toys. In December, we wrap these gifts for the men at the Mission. We also support the needy in David, Kentucky with a Christmas collection. We look for ways to serve in our congregations, such as helping with cleaning and errands when members are unable.
Our work is funded primarily through fundraisers. We meet to discuss the planning of these events and also to discuss new projects and services. We search for new ways to reach out to those around us and strive to continue to support those we have connected with in the past.
The Mission Response Team would like to thank everyone who supported us financially during the past year and just as importantly those who kept us in their thoughts and prayers during our trips to Camden, New York and Biloxi, Mississippi. We would also like to remind all the members of the congregations that we are here to help! We continue planning our Mission Trips and Disaster Relief work; it is important that you remember that as a Team we are committed to helping wherever we can,
which includes serving members of our congregations and people in our own communities. If you need any type of help, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are ready and waiting to serve!
